But here’s the good news: in just three simple steps, you can silence the chaos and reclaim your focus.

Step 1: Audit your current notifications
First, let’s face the noise. Open Settings on your iPhone, scroll down to Notifications, and you’ll see a list of all your apps. For each app, consider whether it truly needs to interrupt you.
Here’s the rule: notifications should only come from apps that directly contribute to your work or personal priorities.
For instance, social media apps like Instagram or TikTok? Turn those off. Shopping apps? Definitely off.
Tap on an app, toggle Allow Notifications to off, and move on. Keep only what’s necessary, such as calendar reminders or urgent work apps like Slack or Zoom.

Here’s the key: restrict alerts to Notification Center for most apps. This keeps your Lock Screen and Banner space free for only the most urgent interruptions.
For example, your work email might stay in the Notification Center for review at your convenience.
But personal messaging apps? They likely don’t belong there during work hours. Adjust each app to deliver notifications in a way that fits your workflow.
Want even more clarity? Turn off sounds entirely for non-critical apps. Vibrations and dings are subtle distractions that add up over time and disrupt your flow.

Step 3: Leverage Focus modes for maximum control
Now comes the game-changer: Focus Modes. This feature tailors notifications to fit your work schedule, blocking out the rest.
Go to Settings > Focus, and select Work or create a custom Focus mode. Add work-essential apps (like project management tools or video conferencing platforms) to your allowed notifications. You can also allow calls from key contacts, like your boss or a family member.
Set this Focus mode to turn on automatically during work hours by tapping Add Schedule or Automation. For example, you could activate it from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. When it’s active, your devices—including Mac and iPad—will sync to maintain the same Focus mode.
Finally, customize your Home Screen for Work Focus. Hide apps like YouTube or X (formerly Twitter) by creating a screen with only productivity tools. This ensures you’re visually focused too.
